The War Memorial.
In 1919, following the tragedy and losses suffered during the First World War, a war memorial was erected in the church listing the names of the 85 soldiers, from New Whittington, killed during the conflict – a large number for such a small village. After the Second World War the names of the 19 soldiers killed in that conflict were also added to the memorial.
Unusually the war memorial formed part of the frame of the old church organ.
When the old organ was replaced in 1995 a service was held to re-dedicate the war memorial. The service was attended by the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, the regiment to which most of those listed on the war memorial belonged, and was taken by the Bishop of Derby.
The names of those who died in the two wars are also on display outside on the East end of the church.
A listing of those names and additional information, where possible can be seen here
